Monster: Emil Scherbe - The Nameless Monster (Jap & Eng)

A pretty old anime about the Monster, not literally, but one that's in the mind of a human being. Very thought-intriguing and dark. Following is the story of "The Nameless Monster" dictated by Anna Liebert (Johan's twin sister) in Episode 37. Perhaps I just want to improve my listening skills. 昔、昔、　或る所に、名前のない怪物がいました。　怪物は名前が欲しくて、欲しくてしかたありませんでした。　そこで、怪物は旅に出て、名前をさがすことにしました。
 

Once upon a time, there lived a monster without a name. The monster wanted a name very very badly and so, he set off on a journey to look for a name. 
 

 

 

でも、世界は広いので、怪物は二つに分かれて旅に出ました。　一匹は東へ、　もう一匹は西へ。　東へ行った怪物は村を見つけました。村の入り口には鍛冶屋がいました。
“鍛冶屋のおじさん、僕にはあなたの名前をください。”
“名前なんてあげられるものか。”
“名前をくれたら、俺におじさんの中に入って、力を強くしてあげるよ。”
“本当か。力が強くなるなら、名前をあげよう。”
怪物は鍛冶屋の中に入っていきました。
 

However, the world is so vast and hence, the monster decided to split into two and went on the journey; one headed East and the other headed West. The half that headed East found a village and there was a smithshop at the entrance of the village.
"Mr Smith, please give me your name!"
" There's no way I would give you my name!"
"If you would give me your name, I would in return, enter your body and make you stronger!"
"Really? If I can become stronger, I will give you my name."
And so, the monster entered the smith's body. 
 

 

怪物は鍛冶屋のオットになりました。　鍛冶屋のオットは村一番の力持ち。　でも或る日、
“僕を見て！僕をみて！僕の中の怪物がこんなに大きくなったよ！”
バリバリ！　グシャグシャ！　バキバキ！　ゴクン！ 
お腹のすいた怪物はオットを中から食べてしまいました。　怪物はまた名前のない怪物に逆戻り。

The monster became Otto the Smith and Otto the Smith became the strongest man in the whole village. However, one day,
"Look at me! Look at me! The monster inside me has become this big!"
*munch! munch!* *crush! crush!* *snap! snap!* *swallow*
The hungry monster ate Otto from inside out and the monster went back to being a monster without a name.
 

 

靴屋のハンスの中に入っても、
バリバリ！　グシャグシャ！　バキバキ！　ゴクン！ 
また名前のない怪物に逆戻り。

Even after possessing Hans the Cobbler,
*munch! munch!* *crush! crush!* *snap! snap!* *swallow*
Once again, it went back to being a monster without a name.

 

 

狩人のトーマスの中に入っても、
バリバリ！　グシャグシャ！　バキバキ！　ゴクン！ 
やっぱり名前のない怪物に逆戻り。 

Even after possessing Thomas the Hunter,
*munch! munch!* *crush! crush!* *snap! snap!* *swallow*
Once again, it went back to being a monster without a name.

 

 

怪物はお城の中に素敵な名前を探しに行きました。　お城の中には病気の男の子がいました。
“君の名前を僕にくれたら、強くしてあげるよ。”
“病気が治って強くなるんなら、名前をあげる。”
怪物は男の子の中に入って行きました。

The monster went inside a castle in search of a wonderful name. And he found a sick boy in the castle.
"If you would give me your name, I will make you stronger."
"If I could get well again and become strong, I will give you my name."
The monster thus went inside the boy's body.
  
 

 

男の子はとても元気になりました。　王様は大喜び、
“王子が元気になった！王子が元気になった！”
怪物は男の子の名前が気に入りました。　お城の暮らしも気に入りました。　だから、お腹がすいても我慢しました。　毎日、毎日、お腹がぺこぺこでも我慢しました。　でも、あまりお腹がすいてしまったんので、
“僕を見て！僕をみて！僕の中の怪物がこんなに大きくなったよ！”
男の子は王様も、家来も、皆食べてしまいました。
バリバリ！　グシャグシャ！　バキバキ！　ゴクン！
誰もいなくなってしまったんので、男の子は旅に出ました。

The boy became very healthy and the King was very glad.
"The prince has become well! The prince has become well!"
The monster grew to like the boy's name, as well as the life at the castle. Therefore, even though it had became hungry, the monster held it in. And with each passing day, the monster continued to hold its hunger. But one day, the monster became so hungry that...
"Look at me! Look at me! The monster inside me has become this big!"
The boy ate his father, his servants and everybody else.
*munch! munch!* *crush! crush!* *snap! snap!* *swallow*
As there was no one left, the boy set off on a journey.



何日も何日も歩き続けて、　或る日を男の子は西へ行った怪物に出逢いました。
“名前を付いたよ！　素敵な名前なんだ。”
西へ行った怪物は言いました：
“名前なんて要らないわ！名前なんてなくても幸せよ！私たちは名前のない怪物ですもの。”
男の子は西へ行った怪物を食べてしまいました。　せっかく名前が付いたのに、名前を呼んでくれる人はいなくなりました。

He walked for countless day. But one fine day, he met the monster who headed West.
"I have a name now! A wonderful name!"
But the monster who headed West replied:
"You don't need a name, you can be happy without a name. We are, after all, monsters without names."
The boy ate the monster who headed West. Despite all efforts to obtain the name, he had no one left around him to call him by that name anymore.
 

 

ヨハン、　素敵な名前なのに。 
Even though Johan was such a wonderful name.
